Methanol

Methanol is a traditional denaturant for ethanol, thus giving the term “methylated spirit.” Methanol is also used as a laboratory solvent, an additive to fuels and as an antifreeze in pipelines and windshield washer fluid.

Known as methyl alcohol, wood alcohol, wood naphtha, methyl hydrate, or wood spirits. Methanol is the simplest alcohol; a light, volatile, colorless, flammable liquid with a distinctive odor very similar to that of ethanol.
